Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2020, $420,750)

This grant award made to the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation (TBI), is funded under OVC FY 2020 Law Enforcement-Based Victim Specialist Program Purpose Area 2: Mid-Sized Agency, which is designed to develop or enhance and sustain crime victim specialist programs within law enforcement agencies and better coordinate services to victims to more quickly and more effectively serve the victim assistance and compensation needs of all crime victims and inform them of their rights as crime victims. The TBI will implement this project to enhance victim services at Tennessee's state law enforcement agency by addressing critical gaps in support and services for victims of crime and their families. The project will target both rural underserved and persistent pove1ty areas, and cases where the nature of the crime requires a higher level of service and investigative coordination, such as in the instance of human trafficking or mass violence. The project will enhance the TBI's existing Victim Services Program to provide timely support and service coordination and add in-depth case management services for persons impacted by Tennessee's growing rates of violent crime and corresponding victimization. Enhancements will include the addition of a full- time Victim Services Specialist to the existing TBI Victim Assistance Program to serve the East/Upper East Divisions, a temporary Administrative/Data Specialist Assistant to aid in data collection and reporting, and the acquisition of a case management program.
