As part of our recognition of the 20th anniversary of the Trafficking Victims Protection Act, Bill Woolf, Senior Advisor for Victim Services and Human Trafficking Program Director, announces the launch of the Human Trafficking Capacity Building Center website. The Center seeks to strengthen human trafficking victim services in the United States by delivering free coaching and mentoring to organizations and federally recognized Tribes looking to start, sustain, or grow their anti-trafficking work.

Every October, the Nation commemorates Domestic Violence Awareness Month. Jessica E. Hart, Director, Office for Victims of Crime, discusses the Office for Victims of Crime’s commitment to supporting organizations throughout the Nation that support victims of domestic violence.

This Office for Victims of Crime video message from Director Jessica E. Hart describes a consolidation of law enforcement, juvenile justice, and victim services human trafficking initiatives at the Office of Justice Programs into one division at the Office for Victims of Crime. This consolidation better aligns funding, training, assistance, and other resources in support of Attorney General Barr’s efforts to use every means at the Department of Justice’s disposal to bring traffickers to justice and serve trafficking victims.

Law enforcement personnel are often the first contact that victims of crime have. It is therefore critical that law enforcement understand the needs of crime victims and provide a trauma-informed response.

This 6-minute video discusses OVC-sponsored programs and resources to enhance the delivery of services to victims of crime by law enforcement agencies.

This video, prepared by OVC and the U.S. Department of the Interior's Bureau of Indian Affairs (BIA), presents an overview of the BIA Victim Specialist Program and identifies some of the program's successes and challenges providing services to victims of crime in Indian Country.

This video provides an overview of the multiple challenges victims face when pursuing safety and justice in Alaska, including geographic, climate, and jurisdictional realities. Traditional values, local customs, cultural practices, and trauma-informed care help victims to heal and serve to promote the well-being of communities.

This video highlights holistic and community-based approaches to victims and offenders. It also addresses the significant impact historical trauma has had on some Alaska Natives. Offenders often return to their homes and communities; therefore, communities must be actively involved in reentry efforts to ensure the safety of victims and community members.

This video focuses on community-driven responses to victims in Alaska villages. Although many challenges remain, well-coordinated responses that integrate tribal- and community-based approaches with other resources are changing outcomes for victims and communities.

This video introduces the issue of sex trafficking of Alaska Natives, especially adolescents and women who travel to urban areas from the villages and then lack the resources to return home. Awareness, outreach, safety, support, services, training, and enforcement are all critical elements discussed in the video. Each of these elements is key to successfully addressing sex trafficking.

This video illustrates the multidisciplinary approach that brings together a range of professions to ensure timely, comprehensive, and victim-centered responses. Teams must be flexible and responsive to the range of short- and long-term needs of Alaska Native victims, including cultural, emotional, physical, and geographic needs.

This 2-minute video describes the Crime Victims Fund, a major funding source for victim services throughout the Nation that is made up of fines, special assessments, and forfeited bail paid by people who are convicted of federal crimes in U.S. courts around the country. The video offers information about the various grant programs funded using VOCA dollars and OVC's collaboration with state administrators of victim compensation and assistance programs.
