About the Author

Fran S. Danis, Ph.D., is an Assistant Professor of Social Work at the University of Missouri–Columbia who has more than 25 years of experience in the victim assistance field. She was the principal investigator for Victims of Crime: A Social Work Response: Building Skills To Strengthen Survivors. Dr. Danis has served as a consultant to the National Victim Assistance Standards Consortium. She is Cochair of the Council on Social Work Education’s (CSWE) symposium on Violence Against Women and Their Children and holds appointments to the National Committee on Women’s Issues of the NASW and the CSWE Council on the Role and Status of Women. Dr. Danis publishes articles on victim assistance, domestic violence, and sexual assault and coedited Breaking the Silence in Social Work Education: Domestic Violence Modules for Foundation Courses for CSWE. Dr. Danis conducts trainings in the areas of crime victim assistance, domestic violence homicide risk assessment, ethical practice in victim assistance, and outcome evaluations.
