Followup
Reactions and responses to a crisis are both immediate and long term
and may be observed for months or even years after an event. Both children
and adults in a school community will have immediate and long-term reactions
and responses to a crisis, including grief. A school-based crisis intervention
team is particularly well suited to monitor the adjustment of students
and staff members for an extended period of time. Ongoing observation
by the school-based crisis intervention team allows team members to identify
individuals who are in need of further services so they can be referred
to community resources. The team may also recognize common needs of students
and staff that can be addressed by establishing support groups in the
school.
