July 30 is World Day Against Trafficking in Persons and an opportunity to educate and take action. This year’s theme is “Human Trafficking is Organized Crime – End the Exploitation.” Learn how labor trafficking can take root in any community. Join the Office for Victims of Crime, the Tribal Victim Training and Technical Assistance (T-VSTTA) team, and a panel of American Indian and Alaska Native practitioners for this Talking Circle conversation.
While knowledge about sex trafficking in Tribal communities has increased tremendously, labor trafficking is still an often overlooked and hidden crime. Labor trafficking occurs when an individual is exploited for financial gain using force, fraud, or coercion to compel them to provide labor or services against their will.
Join this moderated Q&A conversation to learn about the potential signs of labor trafficking, discuss intersections with other crimes—such as elder abuse, benefits fraud, and financial exploitation—and receive resources for identifying and responding to labor trafficking in Tribal communities.
