Since the 1990's, the Virginia Department of Corrections' Victim Services Unit has held an annual poster competition as part of National Crime Victims’ Rights Week commemorations. The Victim Services Unit encourages inmates, probationers, and parolees to submit artwork to the contest. This activity is meant to provide an opportunity to discuss the impact of crime on victims and how inmates, probationers, and parolees can take accountability and develop empathy for others. You can view all the posters and their descriptions by clicking the link below.

The Virginia Department of Corrections asks you to vote for one winner in each of three categories: The 2024 Theme: “HOW WOULD YOU HELP?” Options, services, and hope for crime survivors, Accountability, and Empathy. Scroll through each image and read the description of the artwork, and feel free to leave a comment. Thank you for helping to bring awareness and education to the impact of crime on communities.
