World Elder Abuse Awareness Day
World Elder Abuse Awareness Day, recognized annually on June 15, is a call-to-action for individuals, organizations, and communities to raise awareness about elder abuse, neglect, and financial exploitation.
In commemoration of World Elder Abuse Day, OVC is pleased to highlight a forthcoming video series, Lifting Up Voices, on elder abuse that will demonstrate the impact of elder abuse on older adults and their families, along with effective interventions to assist victims. This project is being developed by the National Center for Abuse in Later Life and the National Center on Elder Abuse with funding from OVC. Subscribe to News From OVC to receive notification about the release of Lifting Up Voices.
Furthermore, OVC just released the FY 2019 Building State Technology Capacity and Elder Abuse Hotlines solicitation through which OVC expects to make up to 5 awards of up to $440,000 each, for projects focused primarily on establishing or enhancing elder abuse or elder crime victim service hotlines (or the elder victim services portion of other general crime victim service hotlines). Apply by July 8, 2019.

This guide was published by the U.S. Department of Justice Elder Justice Initiative, with support from OVC. The Elder Justice Initiative provides additional resources to combat elder abuse and financial exploitation, encourages victims to report abuse, and hosts a series of recorded webinars from OVC’s Training and Technical Assistance Center.
