Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2023, $1,000,000)

This grant will provide resources for chaplain training, transportation, and material resources for distribution that provide emotional support to both law enforcement and victims of crime across the State of Alaska. A lead chaplain will coordinate or conduct evidence-based training meeting national standards for chaplains associated with first responders. Purchases will include high quality crisis intervention materials, curriculum for training, and transportation.

Activities will include: 1) providing 24/7 coverage to respond at a dispatcher's request; 2) properly training and certifying new Alaska Police and Fire Chaplain recruits to provide effective response to our first responders and victims of crime; 3) providing resources and services for well-being in mental health and wellbeing to law enforcement and fire first responders; and 4) providing resources and services for well-being in mental health and well-being to Alaska victims of crime.
