ABSTRACT
Not only are Americans living longer, but the Pikes Peak region also has more older adults than most areas. This sets the stage for a rise in demand for the protection of older adults in Southern Colorado. The Pikes Peak Elder Justice Center (PPEJC) E-MDT was established out of the recognized need for a coordinated response to addressing mistreatment, exploitation, and neglect of at-risk adults in the Pikes Peak region. The PPEJC will enhance, expand and improve the existing E-MDT. Project objectives include: enhancing direct services for victims of elder abuse and exploitation; expanding PPEJC staff and E-MDT personnel; improving E-MDT operations and outcomes; expanding the service area of the E-MDT to identify and serve more victims / clients; deploying an awareness, education, and outreach campaign; and deterring and preventing elder abuse and exploitation including increasing the number of prosecutions of elder abuse and financial exploitation.
