Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2024, $200,000)
The purpose of this grant program is to provide culturally responsive services to crime victims and survivors from communities that have been historically underserved; marginalized; adversely affected by inequality; and disproportionately impacted by crime, violence, and victimization. With this funding, URBAN LEAGUE OF GREATER SOUTHWESTERN OHIO, INC., will address the severe and disproportionate impact of gun violence on Black communities by implementing an integrated support system to promote healing, resilience, and community cohesion; prevent violence; and foster safer neighborhoods. The project targets Cincinnati, Ohio neighborhoods with high rates of crime and poverty. These neighborhoods include West End, Over-the-Rhine, Avondale, Westwood, East Price Hill, Winton Hills, Roselawn, Walnut Hills, West Price Hill, and Downtown. Services to be provided include transportation, clothing, childcare, food assistance, legal advocacy, and education and employment support.
