Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2005, $100,000)

The goal of this project is to foster replication of core elements of a program developed by the awardee in which volunteer chaplains act as community first responders to crime victims, providing them with spiritually-oriented crisis support in the aftermath of crime. A sub-grantee of the previous awardee will take over the project in its entirety in Year 3. This new awardee will incorporate comments from various similar programs around the country into a curriculum developed in Year 1 and pilot-test the curriculum with 100 volunteer trainees. The pilot testing of the curriculum will coincide with the project's efforts to facilitate establishment of community chaplaincy programs in Chicago and Washington, D.C. The project period is 12 months.
