Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2008, $124,968)

The purpose of this grant is to support a fellowship for Inga James under the OVC Victims of Crime Fellowship Program. Dr. James will: (1) support OVC efforts and initiatives to assess the technical assistance, training and capacity-building needs of the crime victims' assistance field at the local, tribal, state, and national level that will subsequently inform OVC efforts to develop and administer training, technical assistance and other resources related to serving victims of crime; and (2)assist senior OVC programmatic staff and management with the administration of initiatives related to the implementation of the federal Crime Victims' Rights Act (CVRA) and state and tribal victims' rights laws. Specific activities in these two areas will include: (1) assisting with assessment of the technical assistance, training, and capacity-building needs of victim service providers and allied practitioners; (2) working closely with OVC staff in the design and administration of training and technical assistance projects, initiatives, and resources for the field; (3) developing reports, speeches, and articles to support OVC training, technical assistance, and capacity- building initiatives, including victims' rights-related activities; (4) assisting in the collection and analysis of performance measure and other programmatic information provided by grantees or sub-grantees funded under the CVRA and other victims' rights-related grants; (5) participating in internal and external stakeholder meetings, forums, and conferences to provide information on OVC efforts to address crime victimization, the needs of the crime victims' field, and implementation of grant funded initiatives that support the implementation of crime victims' rights laws; (6) participating in professional development and training activities to enhance expertise related to needs of crime victims and the implementation of crime victims' rights laws; and (7) working on other victim-related initiatives and projects, as assigned.
