Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2009, $100,000)

The purpose of the OVC FY 09 Action Partnerships initiative is to create partnerships among OVC, the victim services field, and national scope membership, professional and community service organizations to advance victims' rights and services through national-scope training, public awareness, and educational efforts.

Under this award, the grantee will partner with OVC and local, regional and national victim organizations, and community corrections agencies through the American Probation and Parole Association's (APPA) Victim Issues Committee, to increase the public's awareness of the role that community corrections plays in addressing victims' rights and in providing more efficient and effective services to our nation's crime victims. Specifically, the grantee will conduct a public hearing on crime victim issues and issue a policy recommendation report highlighting ways to improve services to crime victims in community corrections. The grantee will also develop a special issue of "Perspectives", APPA's quarterly professional journal, devoted entirely to victim issues in community corrections. Finally, the grantee will deliver workshops at the APPA Winter and Annual Training Institutes in an effort to disseminate information highlighted in the special victim issue of "Perspectives".
