The purpose of this award under the OVC Antiterrorism and Emergency Assistance Program is to enable the Washington Department of Commerce, Office of Crime Victims Advocacy to support the victims of the Marysville Pilchuck High School shooting in Marysville, Washington on October 24, 2014. In this incident, a ninth grade student at Marysville Pilchuck High School, who was a member of the nearby Tulalip Tribe, shot five students in the school cafeteria full of approximately 100 students. He was reloading his gun when a teacher intervened to stop him; he then shot and killed himself. One student died in the cafeteria and four other students were transported to hospitals with critical injuries. Ultimately only one of the shooting victims survived. There is a continuing need to provide mental health services and other support for victims, witnesses, and first responders involved in this tragedy. CA/NCF
