Award Information
Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2016, $5,000,000)
With this award, The International Association of the Chiefs of Police (IACP) will lead the Identifying and Preventing Gender Bias in Law Enforcement Response to Victims Demonstration Initiative. The overall goal of the initiative is to build capacity of law enforcement to raise awareness of the existence and impact of gender bias in order to enhance services to sexual assault and domestic violence victims. The project aims to identify aspects of agency culture that may create or sustain these biases, develop sustainable strategies and partnerships to address and eliminate the impact of bias on police response and investigation of sexual and domestic violence, and implement trauma-informed, victim-centered procedures agency-wide.
IACP will work in collaboration with OVC, other federal partners, and its designated technical assistance providers to competitively select, provide oversight, and manage awards for up to six demonstration sites to implement effective guidance to identify and prevent gender bias in police response and improve services to sexual assault and domestic violence victims, including underserved populations.
