Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2017, $1,333,333)
With funding through the competitive solicitation OVC 2017 Serving Crime Victims With Disabilities: A Seamless Approach From First Response to Healing, the Vera Institute of Justice will achieve OVCs goal to update and expand guidance on making services accessible and appropriate to crime victims with disabilities throughout the process, from first response and forensic interviewing to healing. The Vera Institute of Justice has partnered with the Arc of the United States, the National Sheriffs Association, the National Childrens Advocacy Center, and the National Center for Victims of Crime to update and expand OVCs current training tools for serving victims of crime with disabilities. They intend to ensure that the training tools account for a broader spectrum of disabilities and victimization types, and employ currently available technology to provide increased access to the resources.
