Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2018, $824,831)

In expanding the scope of the advocates’ service to all crimes, PPB would not only be better positioned to meet the needs of its community, this broadening of focus would benefit our program goal of building a case for permanent victim-advocacy funding. In supporting more victims, PPB will also have the ability to survey more victims — the greater the number of respondents, the greater the statistical significance — ultimately providing a stronger, data-backed case to present to City Council. The roles and responsibilities of the advocate as outlined in the original program narrative would not change. This includes assessing victim needs for services and support, coordinating referrals to non-law enforcement organization, serving as liaisons for victims when interacting with law enforcement or prosecutors, and ensuring communication across systems.
