Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2019, $439,676)

The purpose of this award, funded under the OVC FY 2019 Law Enforcement-Based Victim Specialist Program, is to develop or enhance and sustain crime victim specialist programs within law enforcement agencies and better coordinate services to victims to more quickly and more effectively serve the victim assistance and compensation needs of all crime victims and inform them of their rights as crime victims.

Under this project, the Tulsa Police Department (TPD) will address the lack of services available for Oklahoman victims by establishing the TPD Victim Services Program and will employ two new Victim Specialists in TPD’s Detective Division. The purpose of the Victim Services Program is to identify victims more quickly and refer them to community partners that deliver victim services. TPD will work with underserved victims that have not received advocacy services, including families of homicide victims and victims of elder abuse and neglect, shootings, aggravated assault, burglary, robbery, hate crimes, financial crimes, kidnapping, and other serious crimes.
