Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2019, $800,000)

The purpose of this award, funded under the OVC FY 2019 Field-Generated Program to Improve Services for Victims of Crime, will support an innovative, field-generated approach to address gaps in the availability of resources for crime victims. This award is made under Purpose Area 4: Improving the Ordering and Collection of Restitution for Victims. Projects funded under this purpose area will support the development and fulfillment of policies and procedures to assist with the ordering, collection, and recovery of restitution in state courts.

The Council of State Governments (CSG) Justice Center will use this award to establish a Restitution Resource Center (RRC) that supports crime victims by expanding the capacity of state agencies, in partnership with local jurisdictions, to effectively order, collect, disburse, and fulfill restitution sentences. The RRC will collect successful state examples and best practices, as well as share innovative solutions to challenges preventing the collection of restitution, increase data sharing, improve coordination, and troubleshoot other barriers to improve the quality of restitution practices. The RRC will provide training and technical assistance, advance the knowledge base of the professionals administering restitution, promote what works in restitution, and facilitate peer networks and information exchange.
