Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2020, $345,926)

The purpose of this award is to establish or expand Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner (SANE) programs that will offer medical forensic care, advocacy, and other victim services to sexual assault survivors on college campuses. The primary goals of this program are to: 1) establish or expand SANE programs that will improve the delivery of sexual assault medical forensic care, advocacy, and other victim services to sexual assault survivors on campuses using coordinated community response strategies and 2) build the campuses' capacity to train and retain SANEs.

Spartanburg Regional Healthcare System's (SRHS) project Expanding SANE Services to Victims of Sexual Assault on Campus has the goal to establish and expand Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner (SANE) programs to improve the delivery of sexual assault medical forensic care, advocacy, and other victim services to sexual assault survivors on campuses using coordinated community response strategies. The project will be implemented at SRHS medical facilities and on 10 campuses of higher education in Cherokee, Spartanburg, and Union Counties in South Carolina. The objective is to develop, expand, and strengthen services for sexual assault victims on 10 campuses to improve delivery of post-assault medical and advocacy services during the grant period.
