Award Information
Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2020, $400,000)
This program will provide funding for shelter and transitional housing and other assistance to victims of domestic violence and their companion animals, which under this program means pets, service animals, emotional support animals, and horses. With this funding, Rose Brooks Center (RBC) will implement the PAWS Place Expansion project, which will expand housing and supportive service resources for domestic violence (DV) victims with companion animals and increase the levels of training and advocacy in order to improve the communitys response to the co-occurrence of domestic violence and pet abuse. Ultimately, this project will create a coordinated community response to improve resources available to victims and their pets, expand the communitys understanding of the connection between domestic violence and animal abuse, and improve the communitys response when faced with those who may be experiencing this crisis.
