Award Information
Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2020, $300,000)
This project builds on Sauti Yetus decades of work on FGM/C and focuses on education, raising the voices of women and girls affected by FGM/C, connecting them to appropriate services, and creating culturally appropriate materials and safe spaces to foster community dialogue, all to better serve women and girls affected by FCM/C. The project will serve young women and girls ages 15-25 who live in New York City and who have been affected by female genital mutilation or cutting (FGM/C) either having undergone the procedure themselves, or coming from a culture or country in which it is a common practice. The project will: develop culturally and linguistically appropriate materials (booklet, videos, website) for women and girls affected by FGM/C; conduct outreach to community organizations, schools, and other settings where young women and girls affected by FGM/C congregate, and run educational and discussion sessions; and identity and refer young women and girls affected by FGM/C to appropriate services.
