Financial Litigation Unit, Office of the U.S. Attorney, Southern District of California

As a result of increased specialization and focus by Financial Litigation Unit (FLU) staff, the collection of both criminal fines and restitution in the Southern District of California has increased significantly. Criminal collections in Fiscal Years (FYs) 1998–2000 were approximately $3 million. 

FLU's total criminal collections in FY 2003 were approximately $58.7 million. Restitution collections for FY 2003 were $57.5 million, more than five times the $11 million collected in FY 2001. These outcomes came as a result of redesigning the unit to aggressively pursue significant high-dollar cases.
