U.S. Attorney's Office District of Idaho Financial Litigation Unit | Crime Victims Fund Award
Team Members: Amy Howe; Dani Renk; Rosemary Zimbelman
Boise, Idaho
Idaho is not a big district, nor does it have top dollar or high-profile cases. However, its Financial Litigation Unit (FLU) is persistent about collections and sends the message to convicted criminals that they intend to collect on fines, assessments, restitution, and asset forfeitures, as well as property financed by federal moneys owed to agencies and other civil settlements.
Between October 1, 2003, and September 30, 2004, collections from all sources totaled almost $10 million. The FLU collects far in excess of the overall operating budget of the U.S. Attorney's Office. These positive outcomes are a direct result of the hard work, persistence, and ingenuity of the FLU unit to collect debts.
The FLU was nominated by Tom Moss, U.S. Attorney for the District of Idaho.
