FY 2023 ITVERP Report Exhibit 5: Average Time Denied Claims Spent in Each Step of the Claims Process Chart

This bar graph shows the average length of time required to complete each step in the application process for denied claims. Time to review claims and clarify policy implications averaged 162 days, time for incident designation* averaged 35 days, and time to review recommendation memo (OJP) averaged 117 days.

*Note regarding Time for Incident Designation: NSD reviewed designation for one of the claims, which they declined to designate. The other claims did not include enough information to submit a request to NSD for designation or were domestic incidents.
