HEATHER DOOLEY, SOCIAL SERVICES PROGRAM COORDINATOR: Our unit started in 1984, providing services for victims of crime. This looks great. Thank you so much, Jenna. We have a fantastic group of about 55 volunteers that go on scene and provide whatever services it is that that person needs, and then the cases are transferred back to staff members, who provide follow-up services.
AMY DURALL, VICTIM SERVICES DIRECTOR: We serve nearly 5,000 victims every year, and we certainly couldn't do that without the support of our volunteers.
JOB DE LA TORRE, VICTIM SERVICES VOLUNTEER: Our job is to help them pick up the pieces of their lives when they've encountered difficulties.
AMY DURALL: This is a special breed of people. They are the ones that are doing crisis response at all hours of the day and night.
HEATHER DOOLEY: They're able to connect so profoundly with people who may be experiencing the very worst day of their lives.
DEPUTY: This is Victim Services.
JOB DE LA TORRE: Many times they don't know where to turn to or who to ask for help, whether it's legal services or a place to stay.
MAN: In here it explains lots of information.
JENNA ELLIOTT, VICTIM SERVICES VOLUNTEER: We provide them with the tools to be able to get beyond that bad moment in their life. And so, you've got to make sure that you take care of yourself as well.
HEATHER DOOLEY: Every day is broken up into 4-hour shifts, and so, we have 24/7 coverage every single day of the year.
AMY DURALL: One of the highest compliments that gets paid to our volunteers is our deputies can't distinguish them from the paid staff. They conduct themselves professionally out on scene. They write quality reports. They're providing excellent services to people in the community.
JOB DE LA TORRE: I speak Spanish, and I have seen the assistance that I help provide first-hand with people who otherwise would not know how to communicate what has happened.
HEATHER DOOLEY: We are so fortunate to have all of these individuals who want to help and the manpower that they bring to our organization.
JENNA ELLIOTT: Sometimes you just need a whole group of people to help someone get to a better situation.
JOB DE LA TORRE: We have a great team. We have a great team.
