Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2018, $199,099)

The purpose of this program is to enhance services to crime victims in linguistically specific communities by breaking down barriers that prevent millions of Deaf, hard-of-hearing, and limited English proficient (LEP) crime victims from accessing services after crime victimization. Organizations funded through this program will deliver victim-centered and trauma informed services to crime victims in linguistically-specific communities and expand the capacity to address the language access and service needs of all crime victims.

Specifically, MHP Salud, in partnership with the Victim Service Center of Central Florida, will provide direct services and therapeutic support groups for Latina survivors of sexual assault, domestic or dating violence, stalking, and human trafficking in Orange County, Florida. Through this project, MHP Salud Promotoras will conduct community outreach within LEP communities and facilitate community-based support groups using curriculum entitled, El Arte de Sobrevivir (The Art of Surviving).
