Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2020, $1,864,776)
The purpose of this award, funded under the program OVC FY 2020 Services for Minor Victims of Sex Trafficking, is to develop, expand, and strengthen assistance programs for minor victims of sex trafficking. Under the authorizing statute, the term "sex trafficking of a minor" means an offense described in section 1591(a) of title 18 or a comparable state law, against a minor.
The Miami-Dade State Attorneys Office has formed an alliance with human trafficking victim support specialists and developed a comprehensive plan to enhance and expand services to address the unmet needs of minor victims of sex trafficking in Miami-Dade County. Service needs that project partners will collectively address and make available to each others clients include: 1) improved identification and engagement of victims on the front end; 2) substance abuse education and treatment; 3) two generational support for victims with children; 4) survivor mentoring support; 5) housing support for victims 18 to 20 years old; and 6) emergency support.
