Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2020, $417,336)

DOJ and OVC have long recognized the critical need to support American Indian and Alaska Native (AI/AN) victims of crime. Over time, OVC has conducted a number of tribal consultations and listening sessions to gather input from our AI/AN partners regarding the Crime Victims Fund tribal victim services set-aside. Based on the information gathered, OVC will allocate the FY 2020 funding by an interim discretionary administrative formula. With this funding, Newtok Village Council will establish a new victim services program over a 2-year project period. The grantee will hire a full-time Tribal Victim Service Project Coordinator and two SafeHome Assistants; 2.) conduct a community needs assessment and strategic planning process; 3.) contract with mental health specialists and traditional healers to help conduct traditional healing camps and groups for men and women; and 4.) provide direct assistance and support as needed to victims of all types of crime.
