Victims of mass violence

This OVC-funded initiative provides evidence-based information, training, and other resources for communities so they can effectively prepare for and respond to mass violence incidents.

The Disaster Distress Helpline is dedicated to providing year-round disaster crisis counseling. This 24/7 toll free crisis support service is available to residents in the United States and its territories experiencing emotional distress related to natural or human-caused disasters. OVC manages AEAP, which offers five funding streams to provide timely relief to communities affected by domestic terrorism and criminal mass violence for immediate and ongoing victim assistance services in the form of grants. Qualifying applicants include state victim assistance and compensation programs; public agencies; federally recognized Indian tribal governments; and more.

The National Child Traumatic Stress Network works to raise the standard of care and improve access to services for traumatized children, their families, and communities throughout the United States.

The National Organization for Victim Assistance offers crises response team training to help local communities provide education and emotional first aid to victims, survivors, and community members in the event of a mass casualty or natural disaster.
