It is estimated that over 10% of those ages 65 and older experience some form of elder abuse, neglect, or financial exploitation each year. While much attention has been paid to the role of prosecutors, law enforcement, and adult protective service agencies in combatting elder abuse, there has been less focus on the judges who preside over these important cases.
As part of its commemoration of World Elder Abuse Awareness Day, the U.S. Department of Justice, through the Elder Justice Initiative and the Office on Violence Against Women, invites you to join us virtually, via the live stream link below, to watch a roundtable discussion with judges from around the country who will share their views and experiences from the bench presiding over elder abuse or financial exploitation cases.
