Award Information
Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2005, $375,000)
In November 2003 the National Crime Prevention Council received an award from OVC to implement a project to raise awareness about youth victimization and to improve the quality and accessibility of services available to teen victims of crime. During the first year of the project, 20 youth-led sites were selected to develop public awareness campaigns on different issues concerning youth victimization. The sites' campaigns included a variety of projects and activities, including: 25 workshops and assemblies, 15 radio and 5 video public service announcements, 12 poster designs, 11 informational brochures, and 3 websites. The grantee also produced a guidebook for service providers on improving access and services to youth victims.
The purpose of this continuation award is to allow the National Crime Prevention Council and its subcontractor partner, the National Center for Victims of Crime, to competitively select 20 additional sites and continue to fund ten current sites that will expand their existing public awareness campaigns. In close coordination with OVC, the grantee will administer grant funding to these 30 sites and oversee the implementation of all public awareness campaigns. The grantee will also provide training and technical assistance to all selected sites through a group training, conference calls, and site visits.
