Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2024, $400,000)

Since the pandemic, Asians, especially Asian seniors, have been increasingly victimized physically and verbally.   This has caused an emotional toll on Asians, causing some people to fear going out in public, especially at night.   Oakland Chinatown Chamber of Commerce (OCCC) has worked with law enforcement agencies to educate the public about the crime and crime prevention methods, helped provide victims with navigation services, as well as successfully worked with law enforcement agencies to identify and apprehend the criminals.

Oakland Chinatown Chamber of Commerce (OCCC) and the Oakland Chinatown Chamber Foundation (OCCF), as the fiscal agent, are applying for a Department of Justice Office for Victims of Crime grant to expand our work to keep our community safe.  Our proposal for the Oakland Chinatown Ambassador Program for Crime Prevention and Victim Services will help expand our community safety and education program in addition to the crime reporting and navigational services we provide to victims.
