Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2024, $547,000)
When 11 community members were murdered while peacefully worshipping in regular weekly prayer, the Pittsburgh community needed to grieve, create a feeling of safety, and chart a path of healing. An effective partnership between community leadership, civic leadership, and the federal government created the 10.27 Healing Partnership (10.27 HP) through the US Department of Justice Antiterrorism Emergency Assistance Program (AEAP). 10.27 HP was designed to be the coordinating agency for community response to the October 27, 2018 synagogue shooting. This grant birthed an incredible resource for a grieving community as direct and indirect victims were able to know that there was a trusted resource in their healing journey. The 10.27 HP works to empower people directly or indirectly impacted by the October 27, 2018 synagogue shooting to heal and be resilient.
With time-limited AEAP funding that expired September 2023, weeks after the long delayed capital trial for the perpetrator, the 10.27 HP's services are still needed in the community for a little more time. This was determined after an extensive strategic planning journey that sought input from a diverse group of partners and stakeholders, the work was not yet done though the belief was that the 10.27 HP should sunset around the 10th commemoraiton of the shooting.
