Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2024, $1,445,000)

The Harvest Trauma Recovery Center (HTRC) was established to provide a comprehensive one stop solution for individuals who have or are experiencing trauma because of violent crime in Austin/Travis County. The HTRC is expected to be a beacon of hope where survivors can have access to trauma-informed care, counseling, mental health services, and any resource that will help in their recovery and healing process. More than anything else, the HTRC will address the specific needs of marginalized minorities, particularly Black and Hispanic populations who are disproportionately affected by violent crime in Austin/Travis County. Prioritizing these populations will reduce the issue of challenges in accessing the needed mental health support services, promote healing from effects of trauma, and rebuild lives and well-being of individuals most impacted by violent crime.

HTRC primary activities include case management, which involves thorough assessment and care tailored to individual needs. Counseling sessions offer individual and group therapy, crisis intervention, and specialized trauma therapy when needed. Medical services at the HTRC provide immediate care for clients, referrals and follow-up. Legal assistance is also available to help survivors navigate the complex criminal justice system. Housing assistance includes emergency housing, helping survivors find long-term housing. Other wraparound services include vocational training, childcare support, funeral support, transportation assistance among others.

The expected outcomes for HTRC include psychological and emotional well-being of clients through counseling sessions. Legal assistance will lead to protection for the victims and prevent re-traumatization which can occur through the justice system navigation. The housing assistance will result in safety and stability for victims of violent crime and aid in their recovery process. Other wraparound services can lead to employment opportunities and improved outcomes for survivors.

The Harvest Trauma Recovery Center is strategically located for easy access to community members, ensuring all residents, particularly those disproportionately affected by crime, can benefit. The center focuses on serving the economically disadvantaged populations in Austin/Travis County who face higher rates of violent crime. By offering comprehensive support services, HTRC aims to address the unique needs of these communities, promoting healing and recovery for all.
