Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2005, $500,000)

The purpose of this award, one of several projects under the Services for Trafficking Victims Discretionary Grant Program, is to allow Heartland Alliance For Human Needs & Human Rights to expand victim service programs for persons who have been identified by federal law enforcement as victims of a severe form of trafficking during the pre-certification period. Heartland Alliance for Human Needs & Human Rights will provide comprehensive services to trafficking victims located within 150 mile radius of Chicago, Illinois, including parts of Indiana, Michigan, Wisconsin and Illinois; build effective community service networks to respond to victims' needs; and provide training to increase awareness among criminal justice entities, social service providers, and the public of the rights and needs of trafficking victims within the identified geographic area over a 33-month period.
