New Mobile App Provides Support to Victims of Mass Violence and Terrorism

After a mass violence incident, survivors may struggle to complete everyday tasks, find pleasure in things they used to enjoy, or even spend time with loved ones. Everyone recovers in their own way and their own time.

Just launched, the Transcend mobile app offers a safe space for victims to heal. Developed by the National Mass Violence Victimization Resource Center at the Medical University of South Carolina, with funding support from the Office for Victims of Crime, the app provides resources and information about common reactions to mass violence and strategies for recovery.

Users can access tools and activities on calming the body, managing distressing thoughts, maintaining healthy activity, coping with loss, and helping others. A “Get Help” feature offers contact information for crisis hotlines and other support services.

While the mobile app was developed for victims of mass violence and terrorism, the tool can help victims of other violent crimes too.
