OVC FY 2023 Action Partnerships for National Membership and/or Professional Affiliation Agencies Assisting Victims in the Aftermath of Crime

The project’s goals are to expand professional organization members’ knowledge and understanding of crime victim issues and what it means to be trauma-informed and trauma-sensitive, and encourage constituents who may come into contact with family members of homicide victims in their work to integrate this information into their daily practices.

OVC will award each eligible state and territory victim assistance program an annual grant to support eligible crime victim assistance programs in that state or territory. All states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, the U.S. Virgin Islands, American Samoa, Guam, and the Northern Mariana Islands are eligible to receive an annual VOCA victim assistance formula grant.

Crime Victim Survivors: The Power of the Personal Story - Episode 3: Unique Patterson

October 2022

In this podcast, we hear from Unique Patterson who discusses his experience as a gun violence survivor who suffered paralysis from the victimization. Joining Unique on the podcast is Dr. Liza Chowdury, Director of the Paterson Healing Collective, a hospital-based violence intervention program (HVIP). Staff of the Paterson Healing Collective connected with Unique while he was in the hospital, recovering from his injuries. In addition to receiving supportive services, Unique also received financial assistance from the state compensation program.
